Medical City North Hills Trauma Services manager, Melanie Leonard, RN, was honored as a “Healthcare Hero” by the Fort Worth Business Press during a ceremony on February 20 at the Fort Worth Club.
The Fort Worth Business Press Health Care Heroes awards recognizes excellence in the medical community. Health Care Heroes are selected and judged based on nominations from those in the profession and the business community.
Leonard was nominated primarily for her outreach and passion for training first responders and the community in trauma care and prevention. She has recently led several community Stop the Bleed sessions that train bystanders how to apply a tourniquet and help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.
“Educating, mentoring and caring for my patients, their families, my community and fellow healthcare team, has been such a joyous privilege,” Leonard said. “It is a truly great honor to be recognized as a Healthcare Hero for something I naturally feel called to do.”
Leonard received her Masters of Science in Nursing-Education in 2009 and received her Diploma of Nursing from Missouri Baptist School of Nursing in 1985. She has several trauma-specific certifications and is a certified emergency nurse.
